Barn Fever

Its been many moons since I touched this page. Too much has happened to even begin writing anything. So best to start from the first page of the current time frame and move ahead. I have Barn Fever. Totally different from any other critical condition. This one keeps you upright, surging ahead, dreaming big and bigger.It motivates the mind, sizzles the senses, and moves all muscles in the body. There is no cure. It has other names, ambition, adrenalin charged, dream scape and determination to succeed. It encompasses my whole giddy being. My barn fever clutches the heart in the middle of the night, narrows my brain into spasmodic motions and widens my eyes. It is fatal but only pending on not succeeding. My barn fever is a new venue being refurbished by a group of good souled people. A wedding venue that can bring smiles, cheers and tears of happiness. A venue that sports the old, the new, encircling guests, party goers, brides and bridegrooms. A venue that cries yesterday while it projects its patrons into tomorrow. My venue, our venue, their venue. We are making it happen using stealth and braun, hands and motion, women empowerment and
team work. This venue will rock all the way from yesteryear to tomorrow.

Time Slip

Yeeks! where has the time gone. It rushes by me without ever stopping to say hello. Xmas around the corner, friends, catering, shopping, cleaning, baking. How does one lump all this into a few short weeks?
From all to nothing in a wisp of slipping time.. The hubbub has stopped The race settles down to a dreary look out the window, wistfully hoping for spring. Every year it seems I am determined to "like" winter. Every year I fail at the attempt. Bring me spring, summer fall, but leave the slush, heavy coats, and mountain boots behind. I know I am not alone in this thinking pattern. So I hold my breathe, leaning on my mental reprieve. Brain waves imagining flowers, gardens and tanned legs.

Oh I feel goood, oh so gooood!

Nothing gets my adrenaline going faster and more than simply having a great day. And today was a great day!!! Full of fun, laughter, freindship and positive ideas. Scrounging uptown Orono looking for that perfect something, found it! A wonderful hand knit cable stitch throw for my L.R. There are so many quaint shops here in this small town springing up right now. Lots to always see and do lately. Things like this pump the heart, in anticipation of the upcoming Xmas and then (yup I know I am ahead of schedule) but really is Spring far behind once Xmas is over??? Crazy isn't it thinking months in advance. We run ourselves into old age but what a ride!!!

Another wedding

Client arriving tomorrow morning to discuss her wedding for Auguat 2011. August is always a popular month. Summer (July) seems to always be a non fav for clients. Come the fall, every one wants the dates. Were I two people instead of one, I could easily have weddings running off in both directions. However, since that is not feasible, it necessitates me answering...I am sorry, but that date........etc.etc.

In the past there have been weddings I would have loved to take on and cater. With each wedding comes a whole new experience, possibly even new recipes, new ideas and a new venue. Again each chapter of this story is a story in itself. You think that you have done it all, but then along comes the newest wedding and of course there is some whole new learning curve. Since we began this caper five plus years ago, we have had quite a variety of weddings. Goethe, Jewish, traditional, victorian all have been wonderful events to remember. Catering a wedding is never just "another wedding". Every wedding is some one elses history in the making.

Another run around day! Had to find some vintage clothing since Frou Frou Zoo is doing my photo shoot this Sunday. Hope she can tighten wrinkles and slenderize ankles with that camera lense of hers. Since this gals very good I expect to come out young (er) and curvy, you know the Marilyn Munro type!!!!! Not that I need that image when I am cooking and doing the catering caper. It sure helps though when one is experiencing a low self esteem moment after having an affair with pots and pans, and wafting of that dreamy perfume Ode de Cologne de Onion. As the onion smell wafts through your skin and you take on the dimensions of a gourd after 20 hours on ones feet, there appears to be something wrong with this whole picture. Why oh why I wonder do I cater??? Because.. the adrenaline rush, the pressure, the creativity, the hand shakes, the thank yous and knowing we did our best and then some and they ALLL loved it. That's why!

Nothing makes a person feel appreiciated more than downright gratitude. Today I received in the mail, a THANK-YOU card from a past client. Even though I had already received a testimonial from this client which blew me away,not to mention the appreciation at the wedding itself. But here in the mail came a card complete with wedding picture of the happy couple and another astounding message. Well you could have pushed me down with a feather. Sometimes it is just such a little thing that makes for a lot of happy giddy times. Being well thought of can be more than icing on a cake. It darn near IS the cake.

Today is the day

Drizzly day and the perfect day to start my blog. It's been a long time in the making but here I am. Now where to start. Catering is my thing. At least it has been for five years now. Catering weddings has become as important as eating breakfast. The meeting of new clients,the comraderie of working together for almost a year. Keeping in mind that simplistic can be the most elegant. Food does play a big part in your wedding.Feed them well and guests stay around. You can feel the atmosphere mushroom into the night. Frivolity after feasting.

The wonder of it all is that we do create a tastebud explosion.Being thanked, hugged, complimented during the evening creates a euphoria of feelings for us. Like a sponge I take it all in, the atmosphere, the dance, the jolly guests, the new couple surging off into their lives. We became part of this for the past year and now my crew and I completed the picture. We move on with another adrenaline rush into the next wedding.
